Swanage Bay View in Parliament

This page will include correspondence with MPs and news on parliamentary deliberations on caravans and holiday parks

There was a debate in Parliament on 16 December 2010 about the abuse of power by owners of parks with residential park homes. At the end of that debate the Minister said he would also consider legislation to protect owners of holiday caravans from such abuse as well.

During the debate, Swanage Bay View was named by 2 MPs as just such a park. It was said to have ‘excessive fee increases’ and ‘a lot of very commercial tactics being used to abuse their (the park owner’s) position’.

The raising of these issues at the debate, and the specific inclusion of SBV, was in part due to lobbying by our Association and members.  The transcript of the debate can be read in Hansard.  It’s a long debate (it lasted nearly 4 hours) and is largely about Park Homes rather than caravans.  The Hansard account begins here (opens in new window), and continues here (another new windowSwanage Bay View is mentioned on this second page just after 3.17pm in Column 1108).

This debate, and some advice on how to approach your MP to raise concerns, has been covered in NACOs newsletters.  Relevant extracts are available in the links below:
